TWO HOURS I spent searching the different districts and could I find him? Of course I couldn’t. If I hadn’t met him personally, I would have sworn he was a fable. How do I find someone who doesn’t want to be found?

I go back to the alleyway I found him down last time, searching for, well anything. A sign that he came down this way for a reason and not just the mistake I first assumed. Surely he knows he’s safe with me, I didn’t get him last time so why would I now?

“Looking for someone mister?”

I spin around and come face to face with him Where the heck did he spring up from.

“Where did you come from?” I ask, scratching my head, utterly puzzled.

“Here and there, I learnt to be quick on my feet. Now I can’t stay long, my mum will throw a fit if she finds out I’ve come back here!”

“Then why did you come back, surely you couldn’t have been looking for me?” I inquire, this is getting more and more confusing.

“Actually, I was looking for the pretty one, but she hasn’t been around. My mum said I could trust her, but she doesn’t know of you.”

“Hang on a second, your mum knows of Zara. I’m confused, I thought you said you weren’t from around here,” I say, this kid is hurting my head.

“Keep up, you’re not that old. You’re definitely younger than my mum and even she isn’t as slow as you. Maybe it’s not your age, mum says some people are born moronic, are you moronic?”

I’m rubbing my eyes and my temple, he’s too much. It’s settled; I love my niece but I don’t think I like kids or at least, this kid.

“My mum says Uncle Mike knows her or knew her, he said she could be trusted, she’s one of the good ones. And my mum said she’s going to save us all and we’ll finally have a proper home, no more stealing or hiding.”

“So what, Zara is your saviour?” I say, I’m beyond confused now. I hate all this weird stuff this kid is coming out with, is this a set up, some weird kind of test.

“Yes, the scary man told us. Zara will help us all and in turn rid us of the people who want to harm us. I gotta go Mister, my mum is going to flip a lid. But if you see her, tell her Thomas remembers her and he wants to help.” He gives me a cheeky wave before running round the corner.

The kid is fast, the few seconds it takes me to get there, he’s already gone. I can’t take any of this to Caleb and who in Leaders' name is the scary man?

I go to April’s and lose myself in the love I always feel when I’m around my two favourite girls. Blood isn’t always important, there’s been so many families linked together by blood shared who lived in misery. Yet my family was brought together through kindness and love.
